It was faster than any other driving team that I know of at the DARPA Grand Challenge or the DARPA Urban Challenge.

DARPA is the Defense Research Agency one of their projects.

So here is an actual implementation from the DARPA Urban Challenge.

You know, a good example, of course, is the DARPA net.

And now he's going to do what DARPA asked me for.

Specifically, something like the DARPA Grand Challenge might be adversarial or not.

And with money we got from DARPA, we could show just that.

We won a half a million dollars in the DARPA Urban Challenge.

There were over 100 different entries into the first DARPA Grand Challenge.

Let's talk about localization of a car like our DARPA Urban Challenge car Junior.

From this we moved onto build Junior, which competed in the DARPA Urban Challenge.

The DARPA Grand Challenge was a government sponsored race that took place in 2005.

Nothing like the resources of a CERN or a DARPA or an IBM or a Dupont.

It managed to really finish DARPA Grand Challenge, do this race, and won Stanford 2 million.

let me briefly tell you about another project that I worked on called the DARPA Urban Challenge.

This was one of the fastest motion planning algorithms that I saw in the DARPA Urban Challenge.

In doing so we were able to localize Junior in the Darpa Urban Challenge with centimeter precision.

So for me the work on self driving cars started in 2004 after the first DARPA Grand Challenge.

So this is a scene where DARPA trapped our car using a barrier that went all across the street.

This is the DARPA balloon challenge, where they hid a couple balloons all across the United States and said,

In the Darpa Grand Challenge, one of the top competitors was a team from southern California, a high school.

We're working on projects now even wing flapping things the size of hawk moths DARPA contracts, working with Caltech, UCLA.

Those are being used to plan the trajectory of the Google Street View car and the Darpa Grand Challenge cars.

DARPA just gave Steve 15 million dollars to lead an eight institution project to begin the process of asking that question.

I have often suspected that this whole place might just be a front for some type of DARPA funded breeding project.

And the unimaginable happened it became the first car to ever return from a DARPA Grand Challenge, winning Stanford 2 million dollars.

But they're getting better quite quickly and DARPA, which is the investment arm of the Defense Department, is trying to accelerate their trajectory.

What you see here is a robot my students and I built at Stanford called Stanley, and it won the DARPA Grand Challenge.

Let me just discuss it for this one example and show you what we've done to solve this problem in the DARPA Urban Challenge.

Our robot Stanley, for example, that won the DARPA Grand Challenge used its own sensors to produce labels on the fly to other data.

I saw the concept first in the DARPA Grand Challenges where the U.S. government issued a prize to build a self driving car that could navigate a desert.

The first DARPA Grand Challenge came with 1 million of prize money, and despite this prize money, no team made it further than 5 of the total course.

So, what I've been teaching you last class about the common fater really had a major role to play in making Stanley the robot win the DARPA Grand Challenge.

I get this sort of unrequested by me anyway visit, and sitting in my conference room is a very senior surgeon from the military and the guy that runs DARPA.

A few years ago I was visited by the guy that runs DARPA, the people that fund all the advanced technologies that businesses and universities probably wouldn't take the risk of doing.
