Bone tissue is a type of connective tissue and it's not flimsy like a Kleenex at all.

I mean, this is the connective tissue of the human superorganism in action.

Muscle tissue consists of innumerable cells.

It's ordinarily a balanced system with cells that damage tissue and cells that try to repair tissue.

When cells join together, they are called a tissue.

That's really the binding connective tissue between all these TEDx events that continues to really blow me away.

It's allowing the cells to regenerate new tissue, and once the tissue is regenerated the scaffold goes away.

You have tissue culture cells. There are a ton of viruses.

Things in life start out being general cell, and they become specialized you have tissue cells, you have muscle, brain cells.

Because what stem cells are they're these phenomenal cells that really have the ability to differentiate into any type of tissue.

So, is it possible that the tumor cells are going to the skeletal muscle tissue, but once in contact inside the skeletal muscle tissue,

If somehow we can cause these cells to differentiate to become bone tissue, lung tissue, liver tissue, whatever that cancer has been put there to do it would be a repair process.

And furthermore, that nervous tissue brain gets cancer, and brain cells are also terminally differentiated.

And there are, again, now tens of millions of these links that give us the connective tissue of social graphs and how they relate to content.

We then tease the tissue apart into its two individual cell components, muscle, and these bladder specialized cells.

Mitosis occurs in pretty much all of our somatic cells as our skin cells replicate, and our hair cells and all the tissue in our body as it duplicates itself, it goes through mitosis.

So, tissue design.

Instead of staining all of the cells inside of a tissue, it somehow only stains about one percent of them.

All of that connective wiring must be insulated with something called myelin.

On the left, we see a tiny piece of beating heart tissue that I engineered from rat cells in the lab.

like skin cells, gut cells, and blood cells.

Maybe this cell and its descendants eventually start becoming part of the nervous system, while these cells right here might become muscle tissue, while these cells right here might become the liver.

No matter what the consistency is, a tissue is a group of the same cells, working together to perform a similar function.

And these stem cells then float in the bloodstream and hone in to damaged organs to release growth factors to repair the damaged tissue.

And so what we did is, we take tissue culture cells and infect them with various viruses, and we take the stuff and fluorescently label the nucleic acid, the genetic material that comes out of these tissue culture cells mostly viral stuff and stick it on the array to see where it sticks.

No, not that kind of tissue.

Use some of that tissue there.

And as you bring these things together, as you bring cells, biological tissue engineering and mechanics together, you begin to get some really odd questions.

What we did is, we took tissue culture cells and infected them with adenovirus, and you can see this little yellow barcode next to adenovirus.

Liver cells, nerve cells, pancreatic cells we still can't grow them even today.

And two of the most expensive tissues in our human body are nervous tissue and digestive tissue.
