This kind of deformation is really important in the recognition of objects.

Notice this. This is really interesting. Notice this elastic energy here.

Or essentially that they're all elastic bumps between the different molecules.

Their wing is covered with sensors, including sensors that sense deformation of the wing.

We store potential energy to the elastic skin to make it move.

You can see that this actually adds up. You can see that the elastic energy before is about the same as the elastic energy plus the movement energy afterwards.

I'm just a big fan of, you know elastic. I think it's awesome.

Because some of that pressure energy got taken away and stored as elastic energy.

So that becomes a very powerful force for them to make their brand more elastic.

So lets draw that in here. There is a little bit of elastic energy left.

I would call this Deformation Invariance because the object is actually deformable as our many objects that surround us,

One is that the elastic energy helps lower the pressure. We saw that here are here.

You can use this stored elastic energy to move blood. You can use this for movement energy.

They would misshape it or deform, and other planes would come along and precisely mark off those locations of of deformation.

That elastic energy would be something like that. It would actually take up a chunk of that pressure energy.

So, lots of work on skin deformation, you can see in some of these cases it works, in some cases it looks bad.

The fall was absorbed somewhat by the carpet and, in addition, his back was more elastic than Gregor had thought.

You can already see how elastic energy is really helpful because it helped you lower the pressure. Now what happens in diastole.

You can actually now in diastole move some blood forward because the elastic energy is recoiling like a rubber band, and that energy has to go somewhere.

Since energy density implied by cosmological constant is constant in time, it corresponds roughly to the force that is proportional to the distance, like the elastic force.

And this exhibition is about the work of designers that help us be more elastic, and also of designers that really work on this elasticity as an opportunity.

So we know that just like in a balloon or rubber band if you stretch it out you are going to get some extra energy we call elastic energy.

In essence, our true challenge is that by altering the amino acid sequence of the proteins we can make spider silk stronger and more elastic, and control its biocompatibility.

Already you can see that the lesson from the first part of this picture was that we have a little bit of elastic energy here and you can see that.

Some of the minds in this audience are super elastic, others are a little slower, others have a few stretch marks, but nonetheless this is a quite exceptional audience from that viewpoint.

The other cool feature about elastic energy is that not only does it lower your pressure which we have talked about, but it also can be used to convert it into movement energy.

So if I was actually going to measure how much energy, obviously I don't measure movement energy or elastic energy, the only thing I really measure in the doctor's office is the pressure energy.

When you want to recognize objects, you want to write software that is invariant to scale and illumination and so on and that it retains the important information in the image regardless of the present rotation and occlusion and deformation.
