Anybody want some granite?

And we all enjoy this kind of thing in the beautiful Boulder that we live in. We are much much too connected.

You should not be Sisyphus, who rolls a rock up a mountain all day only to find the boulder rolled down at night.

It was as if I was living in a stagnant pool and cancer dynamited the boulder that was separating me from the larger sea.

But let's say, I still have a 100,000 and I use that 100,000 I'll do it in yellow to put in some granite counter tops.

So unfortunately, a lot of that 500,000 it gets quote unquote invested in granite countertops, two more bathrooms per house, hardwood floors, and you can imagine.

This last fall, I went to the Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado, and talked to the researchers here in Monterey at the Naval Postgraduate Laboratory.

When you add granite, or you add an extra bathroom or hardwood floors or this extra 2,000 square feet, is it making anyone who's living in that house more productive?

Things like wood floors and the two more bathrooms and the granite countertops, there is some value there, but that value is definitely not equivalent to the amount of money that was spent on them.

But the problem is, if you landed with the older systems, you could've landed on the side of that mountain and just tumbled off, could've been the side of a cliff, the crater wall or a large boulder.

So you're just somehow assuming that the granite counter tops that you choose are going to be the taste that someone else would like or that the hardwood floors are going to be the taste someone else would like.

Resources that could have built factories, could have built schools, could have built roads, whatever, ended up building granite countertops and sending people on vacation and making them feel good to go start shopping at Williams Sonoma or Neiman Marcus or whatever.

Just as he gets there, the effort becomes too much, the boulder escapes, rolls all the way down the hill, he has to trudge back down to push it up again, and the same thing happens again and again for all eternity.
