Propound not then for Allah similitudes, verily Allah knoweth and ye know not.

Behold! how they propound similitudes for thee! They have strayed and cannot find a way.

Behold how they propound similitudes for thee! so they have strayed and cannot find a way.

And these similtudes! We propound them for mankind and none understand them save men of knowledge.

And propound thou Unto them the similitude of the inhabitants of a town, When there came thereto the sent ones

And Thus We variously propound the revelation, and this is in order that they may say thou hast studied, and that We may expound it to a people who know.

Propound thou unto them the similitude of two men. We appointed to one of them two gardens of vine and hedged both with date palms, and We placed in between the twain tillage.

(O Muhammad), propound a parable to them. There were two men of whom We bestowed upon one of the two vineyards, surrounding both of them with date palms and putting a tillage in between.

Had We sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain you would indeed have seen it humbling itself and breaking asunder out of fear of Allah. We propound such parables to people that they may reflect.

Had We sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, thou wouldst surely have seen it humbling itself and cleaving in sunder for fear of Allah. Such similitudes We propound Unto mankind that haply they may reflect.

He sendeth down water from the heaven, so that the valleys flow according to their measure then the torrent beareth the scum on top, and from that over which they kindle a fire seeking ornament or goods ariseth a scum like thereto Thus doth Allah propound the truth and falsity. Then as for the scum, it departeth as rubbish, and as for that which benefiteth the mankind, it lasteth on the earth Thus doth Allah propound the similitudes.

Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, verily, thou wouldst have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes which We propound to men, that they may reflect.

Say thou look ye were Allah to take away your hearing and your sight and seal up your hearts, what god, other than Allah, shall bring them unto you? Behold! how variously We propound the signs, yet they turn aside.

Say thou He is Able to stir up torment on you from above you or from beneath your feet or to confound you by factions and make you taste the violence of one anot her. Behold! how variously We propound the signs that haply they may understand.

And propound thou unto them the similitude of the life of the World. It is as water which We send down from the heaven, then there mingleth therewith the vegetation of the earth, and lo! it becometh dry stubble which the winds scatter and Allah is over everything potent.

(O Prophet), propound to them the parable of the present life it is like the vegetation of the earth which flourished luxuriantly when it mingled with the water that We sent down from the sky, but after that the same vegetation turned into stubble which the winds blew about. Allah alone has the power over all things.

He does propound to you a similitude from your own (experience) do ye have partners among those whom your right hands possess, to share as equals in the wealth We have bestowed on you? Do ye fear them as ye fear each other? Thus do we explain the Signs in detail to a people that understand.

Verily Allah is not ashamed to propound a similitude, be it of a gnat or of aught above it. Then as to those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. And to those who disbelieve, they say what intendeth God by similitude? He sendeth many astray thereby, and He guideth many thereby, and He sendeth not astray thereby any except the transgressors,

To Him is referred the Knowledge of the Hour (of Judgment He knows all) No date fruit comes out of its sheath, nor does a female conceive (within her womb) nor bring forth the Day that (Allah) will propound to them the (question), Where are the partners (ye attributed to Me? They will say, We do assure thee not one of us can bear witness!
