So in these two examples, we had basically machines that learned how to walk in simulation, and also machines that learned how to walk in reality.

And that was true until I got to college.

To get this far in our understanding of these things it took the combined effort of mathematicians, physicists, botanists and biochemists, and we've certainly learned a lot, but there's much more to be discovered.
