What if we collect the sun with a large reflector

Assign the shininess, and also assign the specular color to be this.

The diffuse term drops off smoothly, but the specular suddenly drops to zero, giving a pretty bad result. By using the Lambertian dropoff, the specular term now fades properly.

One idea is to attenuate the specular term by the lumbersian fall off.

A final instance where things might go wrong is reflective objects that have specular reflections.

One technique worth mentioning with this reflection model is that you can get the specular highlight a different color than the diffuse components.

Note that the specular color is different than the material color. You should check the online documentation to make sure you're setting the right color.

And in addition, we've actually used polarizers on all the lights just like polarized sunglasses can block the glare off of the road, polarizers can block the shine off of the skin, so we don't get all those specular reflections to take this map.

So, if we use information that comes off of this specular reflection, we can go from a traditional face scan that might have the gross contours of the face and the basic shape, and augment it with information that puts in all of that skin pore structure and fine wrinkles.

So we created a genetic algorithm to try this out, we made a model in Excel of a multisurface reflector, and an amazing thing evolved, literally, from trying a billion cycles, a billion different attempts, with a fitness function that defined how can you collect the most light, from the most angles, over a day, from the sun.

From behind, from 10 o' clock it will make an outline of light around your model and if you completely go around to 12 o' clock then there 's back lighting your model is a silhouette... unless you 've put up a reflector let 's say at 7 o 'clock right next to the camera and reflect a lot of light back.
