So a good place to start is just to think about disposable income.

Net income plus interest. So they're adding back your interest.

And you might already say, wait if I took net income

The disposable income is essentially the amount that ends up in the hands of people.

And the idea is, what is in the hands of households after paying their taxes disposable income.

So the interesting thing is where this disposable income has been going over the last many, many years.

So this right here, this chart, is a plot of the percentage of disposable income saved since 1960.

There were a group of people who were probably already always saving at 10 of their disposable income.

So here they say total reported income in 2004 dollars so they adjusted for inflation fell 1.4 .

So this is just the same thing as net income plus interest plus taxes.

Well, then, all of a sudden, they have more disposable income naybe to spend on something like e books.

Well, net income over assets, I think the reason why that definition exists is because one, net income does factor into these things that frankly I didn't want to think as much about.
